Preliminary work

Preliminary work for removing and installing ATF thermostat

1. Remove front apron at the front. -> 631519 Removing and installing front apron - section on "Removing"

Removing ATF thermostat

WARNING

Hot fluid

- Danger of scalding

-> Let the fluid cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.





Installation position of ATF thermostat

1. Place oil collecting container underneath the vehicle.
2. Loosen fastening screw -1- on holder -2- for ATF lines -3- for the transmission at the thermostat -4-.

3. Pull ATF lines -3- from transmission to thermostat out of the thermostat -4-.
Close off the lines with suitable stoppers.
4. Loosen fastening screw -1- on holder -2- for ATF lines -5- at the thermostat -3-.





Removing front lines

5. Loosen fastening screw -4- on the ATF thermostat -3-.
6. Pull the ATF thermostat -3- down off the ATF lines -5- for the cooler and towards the rear -A-. Close off the lines with suitable stoppers.
7. Remove ATF thermostat.

Installing ATF thermostat

Information

- The sealing rings at the ends of the ATF lines on the transmission and cooler sides must be replaced before installation.

1. Replace sealing rings on the disconnected ATF lines and smear with ATF.
2. Fit the ATF thermostat -1- onto the ATF lines -2- for the ATF cooler -A-.

3. Position ATF thermostat -1- and screw in fastening screw -3-.
4. Position holder for ATF lines -4- to the ATF cooler and screw in fastening screw -5-. => Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)+/-0.8 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.)
Ensure that the lines are seated correctly.
5. Fit ATF lines -3- from the transmission into the thermostat -4-.

6. Position holder -2- and screw in fastening screw -1-. => Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)+/-0.8 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Fit front apron at the front. -> 631519 Removing and installing front apron - section on "Installing"
2. Check ATF level and top up if necessary. -> 370235 Checking and topping up ATF 370235 Checking and Topping Up ATF
