Preliminary work

WARNING

Hot fluid

- Danger of scalding

-> Let the fluid cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

1. Place oil collection pan under the converter bell housing.

Information

- ATF can leak out when removing the torque converter.

- Place torque converter with transmission side pointing upwards.

2. Remove torque converter from the transmission shaft.

1. Clean emerging oil off converter bell housing.

CAUTION

ATF pump can be damaged if not installed correctly.

- Risk of shearing off drivers on ATF pump pinion

-> Precisely align cut-outs on the converter hub with the drivers on the ATF pump pinion
-> Install the converter slowly and carefully

2. Before installation, align the torque converter so that the cut-outs in the converter coincide with those in the driver -arrows-.

3. Slowly push torque converter as far as it will go onto the transmission shaft. When doing so, make sure that the converter hub is still aligned with the ATF pump driver.

Information

Leaks can occur if the torque converter is not installed in the correct sequence. For more information, see installation instructions.

4. When sliding in the torque converter -1- , the sealing lip of the shaft sealing ring can bend over because of a ridge on the torque converter -1- ( -bottom arrow- ).

5. Pull torque converter -1- out by approx. 5 mm. This moves the shaft sealing ring back into its correct installation position. => Positioning sealing lip

Information

- Ensure that converter is seated correctly.

6. Push torque converter as far as it will go onto the transmission shaft.

Subsequent work

1. Install Tiptronic transmission. -> 373519 Removing and installing transmission - section on "Installing" 373519 Removing and Installing Transmission
2. Check and if necessary, top up ATF. -> 370235 Checking and topping up ATF 370235 Checking and Topping Up ATF
