Intake System

Intake system

Changes in the V6 engine (compared with V8)

- The air filter housing (1) is located behind the front apron
- The Panamera V6 has only one raw air intake in front of the air filter housing
- The front apron must be removed to change the air filter element

NOTE: The recommended replacement interval of the air filter will be 80,000 miles or every 4 years.

Compared with the V8 engines, the left raw air intake on the air filter housing is omitted. The air filter housing is closed with a cap and a water drain hose is installed.

In the V6 engine, the 2 air ducts from the air filter housing are joined before the electronic throttle.

Intake system

The intake system developed for the V6 engine is provided with a mounting at the rear for the new pressure sensor for load detection. The intake system with variable intake manifold combines the advantage of a long intake manifold - higher torque at low rpm - with that of a short manifold, namely high specific output in the upper rpm range. For this purpose, the resonance intake system uses the air mass oscillations in the intake tract, dependent on the engine speed, to achieve better volumetric efficiency of the engine. Depending on the position of the intake manifold flap, this permits realization of a high torque curve in conjunction with the optimized intake duct geometry.

The DME control unit controls the electro-pneumatic change-over valve, which switches a vacuum to the diaphragm cell in order to switch to the long intake manifold length at low engine speeds (torque position 578 mm). Switching to the short intake manifold takes place as from an engine speed of 3,680 rpm (power position 304 mm).
