Preliminary work

1. Remove front seat.

2. Remove cover for backrest.

Removing front backrest frame

1. Loosen the two restraining straps on the rear part of the seat -arrows-.

2. Remove the cover on the lower part of the backrest frame using a plastic wedge -arrows-.

Information

- Make sure that the wire harness is not trapped or damaged during removal.

- The number of connectors and tie-wraps can vary, depending on seat equipment.

- Plug in or out all connectors going to the backrest.

- Cut and replace all tie-wraps used to secure the wire harness to the backrest.

3. Cut tie-wraps on wire harness and disconnect connectors.
3.1. Cut the two tie-wraps -1- and -2- in front of the plug connections using side cutters.

3.3. Unplug plug connections under the seat frame -1 to 5-.

3.4. Cut the tie-wrap -1- on the control unit connector using side cutters.

3.5. Lift the locking mechanism -1- on the connector -2- on the control unit using a screwdriver -A- and release it using the locking lug -3- ( -B- ).

3.6. Remove the split cable conduit -1- and expose the wire harness -2- as far as the cable sheathing.

3.7. Unwrap cable sheathing -1-.

3.8. Remove tie-wrap -2- on the connector socket -1-.

3.9. Release the two single connectors -3- ( -A- ) and remove them from the connector socket -1- ( -B- ).

- Two persons are needed to remove and install the backrest frame.

4. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and lift the backrest frame -2- up slightly -arrow-.

5. Secure the backrest in an upright position and press the seat cushion in at the outside -A-.

6. Guide the wire harnesses up -B- out of the seat frame.
7. Remove backrest frame and wire harnesses.

Installing front backrest frame

WARNING

Incorrect handling of safety bolts

- Danger of injury
- Loss of torque

-> Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.
-> Observe specified tightening torques.
-> Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

Information

- Two persons are needed to remove and install the backrest frame.

1. Engage the backrest at the inside in order to install the wire harnesses -arrows- and secure it so that the backrest cannot tip forward or back.

2. Hold the backrest upright and press the outer side of the seat cushion inwards -A-. Then guide in the wire harnesses in a downward direction -B-.

3. Guide the backrest frame -2- in fully -arrow- , screw in the two fastening screws -1- and tighten to the specified tightening torque. => Tightening torque: 35 Nm (26 ftlb.)+/-4 Nm (+/-3 ftlb.)

Information

- The number of connectors and tie-wraps can vary, depending on seat equipment.

- Plug in or out all connectors going to the backrest.

- Cut and replace all tie-wraps used to secure the wire harness to the backrest.

4. Plug in all connectors on the underside of the seat and route and secure the wire harness.
5. Fit cover on the lower part of the backrest frame using a plastic wedge -arrows-.

6. Engage the two restraining straps on the rear part of the seat -arrows-.

1. Install cover for backrest.

2. Install front seat.
