Preliminary work

1. Remove left front wheel. -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Removing" Removal and Replacement
2. Remove rear part of left front wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

NOTICE

Danger of scalding

- Coolant can be very hot.
- Coolant may be pressurised.

-> Perform the removal only once the cooling system has cooled down.
-> By carefully opening the catch on the reservoir, make sure that the cooling system is depressurised.

NOTICE

Danger of slipping due to emerging coolant

- The emerging coolant will make the floor of the workshop slippery and may cause people to slip and fall over.

-> Collect emerging coolant in a suitable pan.

1. Remove coolant hoses.





Pulling off coolant hoses

1.1. Close off feed hose -1- and return hose -2- for coolant using a suitable tool -3-.
1.2. Loosen spring band clamp -4- and pull off feed hose -1-.
1.3. Loosen spring band clamp -5- and pull off return hose -2-.

WARNING

Emerging fuel

- Risk of fire

-> Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
-> Collect emerging fuel, absorb it if necessary with a suitable binding material and dispose of properly.
-> Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
-> Attach warning sign to vehicle in a clearly visible position.

2. Remove fuel hose.





Pulling off fuel hose

2.1. Spread clamp -1- for fuel hose -2-.
2.2. Detach fuel hose -2-. -arrow-
2.3. Dispose of used clamp -1-.
3. Detach flexi-pipe for muffler.





Detaching flexi-pipe

3.1. Loosen clamp -1- of flexi-pipe -2-.
3.2. Lift out flexi-pipe -2- and pull it off.
4. Remove electric plug connections.





Unplugging electric plug connections

4.1. Release electric plug connections -a-.
4.2. Pull off electric plug connections -A-.
5. Detach heater.





Detaching heater

5.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- at top and bottom.
5.2. Pull out heater in direction of travel.

Installing complete heater

1. Place heater in position.





Inserting retaining pin into sleeve

1.1. Insert retaining pivot into the rubber sleeve -arrow-.
2. Secure heater.
2.1. Position clips -2- onto the retaining pin.
2.2. Loosely fit fastening nuts at top -1- and bottom.

Tightening clamp

2.3. Slide flexi-pipe -3- and screw-type clamp -4- onto muffler -5-.
2.4. Tighten both fastening nuts -1- for bracket.
3. Tighten screw -6- for the clamp.
4. Fit coolant hoses.





Positioning spring band clamps

4.1. Push coolant feed and return hoses over the heater's connection piece.
4.2. Position spring band clamps -2- on the markings -1- using mounting pliers and slacken them.
4.3. Remove tools for disconnecting the hoses.
5. Fit fuel hose. Use a new clamp.
5.1. Connect fuel hose -2- to the line.

5.2. Secure fuel hose -2- onto line using new clamp -1-.
6. Connect electric plug connections -1- until they engage securely.

Subsequent work

1. Fill in coolant and bleed cooling system. -> 193817 Draining and refilling coolant Service and Repair
2. Install rear part of left front wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
3. Fit left front wheel. -> 440519 Removing and reinstalling wheel - section on "Installing" Removal and Replacement
