Other Functions of the DME Control Unit

Other Functions of the DME Control Unit

Sport Button (Standard Equipment)

Standard setting:
- Optimized comfort and fuel consumption
- Dynamically comfortable accelerator characteristic

Sport mode:
- Auto Start Stop function deactivated
- Sporty engine setup
- Accelerator reacts more quickly, more spontaneous throttle response
- Throttle open further for same pedal travel
- Coolant temperature is reduced

Sport Plus Button (Optional Equipment)
- Auto Start Stop function deactivated
- For even sportier setup
- Performance-orientated
- Turbo with overboost (for max. 10 sec. + 10% torque 770 Nm)
- Coolant temperature is lowered
- Activation of the shift indicator

Activation of VarioCam Plus

The DME control unit also controls the VarioCam Plus system (stepless control of the intake camshafts from 0 to 50° as well as valve lift adjustment of the intake valves (large/small lift)

Apart from continuous adjustment of the timing, the system also enables switching of the valve lift of the intake valves. In conjunction with direct fuel injection, this allows high power output and torque values together with low fuel consumption. A new feature of the new generation of V8 engines is a fully aluminium, lightweight camshaft adjuster. This lightweight design measure reduces the weight by approx. 3.7 lbs (1.7 kg) and also reduces rotating masses, thereby achieving a more agile engine response.

Activation of the Demand-Controlled Variable Oil Pump

Another measure designed to achieve high efficiency is use of a variable oil pump with demand-based control. The pump is designed as an external gear pump with an integrated turbocharger suction stage for the V8 bi-turbo engine. Demand-based control takes place via the engine management system and adjustment is performed hydraulically. The engine management system uses the engine speed, oil temperature and torque as input values. Based on this information, the engaged gear wheel width and thus the geometric displacement volume of the gear wheel set is changed through the axial movement of a gear wheel (moved hydraulically) and this in turn changes the oil pressure.

Activation of the Infinate Controlled Radiator Fan

1 electric radiator fan:
Panamera S - 0 to 600 W
Panamera Turbo - 0 to 850 W

Diagnostic information is described in Guided Fault Finding.

NOTE: When removing the electric radiator fan, the fan must never be held by the fan blades as this can lead to extreme imbalance.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Acceleration or deceleration via electronic accelerator and brake as appropriate, also braking to standstill.

Electronic Accelerator Pedal Unit

An electronic accelerator pedal unit (A) is installed in the Panamera as a sensor, like in the 9X7 vehicles.

Increase in Idle Speed

In the Panamera, the idle speed can be increased if a corresponding request is received from the gateway in order to increase the charging current of the generator. The field current is regulated in the gateway.

The following actual values are available in the DME control unit, for example:
- Setpoint generator voltage
- Actual generator voltage
- Generator capacity utilization
- Generator temperature

NOTE:
For other vehicles as from model year 2007:
All of these functions are contained in the DME control unit for 987 and 997 models (except for GT3) as from model year 2007. For this purpose, the DME control unit regulates the field current depending on the power requirement of the vehicle electrical system, the instantaneous generator utilisation as well as the generator temperature. The voltage in the vehicle electrical system can be increased to significantly above 15 V and the engine idle speed can be increased in order to improve the charge balance.
