Preliminary work

Preliminary work for transmission

1. Remove cover for centre underbody. -> 519319 Removing and installing cover for centre underbody - section on "Removing" 519319 Removing and Installing Cover for Centre Underbody
2. Remove cover for front underbody. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Removing" 519219 Removing and installing Cover For Front Underbody
3. Remove exhaust system. -> 260119 Removing and installing exhaust system - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
4. Remove rear cardan shaft. -> 393519 Removing and installing rear cardan shaft - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
5. Remove left catalytic converter. -> 267619 Removing and installing primary catalytic converter - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing transmission

1. Loosen right exhaust system holder -2- on the primary catalytic converter. To do this, unscrew the screw -1-.

2. Remove exhaust system holder -2- at the right of the transmission.

3. Disconnect cable plug -arrow- for reverse gear on the transmission.

4. Disconnect cable plug on transmission sensor -arrow- and remove line from the bracket.

5. Remove slave cylinder from the transmission and secure it in the transmission tunnel. The hydraulic line must not be opened. -> 303019 Removing and installing clutch slave cylinder Service and Repair
6. Remove chassis brace.

7. Support transmission with transmission jack and secure with a retaining strap.
8. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the transmission support.

9. Unscrew fastening screws -1- securing transmission to engine.

10. Remove transmission from the engine and lower it slightly.
11. Remove the shift and selector cables at the top of the transmission.

12. Remove transmission.

Installing transmission

1. Support the transmission on a transmission jack and secure with a retaining strap.
2. Grease the input shaft -arrow- on the transmission.

3. Guide the transmission into the transmission tunnel.
4. Slide rubber sleeve on the operating cable through the support and engage the ends of the cable -1- on the transmission.

5. Insert safety clips -2- on the support.

6. Fit transmission with a spacer plate and mount it on the engine by turning the output shaft.

7. Screw in new fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. When doing so, make sure to install the exhaust system holders at the left and right.=> Initial tightening: 38 Nm (28 ftlb.) => Final tightening: 90°
8. Screw in fastening screws for securing transmission support to body -1-. => Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

9. Fit chassis brace. For details of torques, see -> 4X00IN00 Tightening torques for front axle

10. Install slave cylinder. -> 303019 Removing and installing clutch slave cylinder - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
11. Push on cable plug on sensor. Secure line to holder.

12. Connect cable plug -arrow- for reverse gear on the transmission.

13. Install exhaust system holder -2- at the right of the transmission.





Mounting for bottom holder

14. Secure the right exhaust system holder -2- on the primary catalytic converter. To do this, screw in the screw -1-.

Subsequent work for transmission

1. Install left catalytic converter. -> 267619 Removing and installing primary catalytic converter - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Install rear cardan shaft. -> 393519 Removing and installing rear cardan shaft - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
3. Install the exhaust system. -> 260119 Removing and installing exhaust system - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
4. Adjust the shift and selector cables. -> 341215 Adjusting shift and selector cables Adjustments
5. Install cover for front underbody. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Installing" 519219 Removing and installing Cover For Front Underbody
6. Install cover for centre underbody. -> 519319 Removing and installing cover for centre underbody - section on "Installing" 519319 Removing and Installing Cover for Centre Underbody
