WM 400819 Removing and installing front-axle support

Technical values

Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle -> 4X00IN Lifting the vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove front underbody panel. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Removing" 519219 Removing and installing Cover For Front Underbody

Removing front-axle support

Mounting for support (cross strut), all

1. Detach rear section of front wheel housing liner -1- on both sides.

Removing struts

2. Remove struts -2- on both sides.
3. Unscrew fastening screws for front-axle support -arrows- from the outside in.

Fastening screws, front-axle support

4. Remove front-axle support -1-.

Information

PDCC chassis:

- Steel flexi-pipes are particularly sensitive to kinking and crushing.

- Treat the steel flexi-pipes with great care when securing the anti-roll bar.

- Make sure that the steel flexi-pipes are not subject to any mechanical loads during the following operations.

5. Tie anti-roll bar -1- to the body using a suitable piece of wire -2- to prevent any load on the steel flexi-pipes.

Securing anti-roll bar

Installing front-axle support

Information

The anti-roll bar must be positioned before tightening the fastening screws of the anti-roll bar support (=front-axle support) so that the highest point of the anti-roll bar is positioned at a distance from the frame support (not the fold!) of -Y- or -Z-.

The distance is:

For a normal suspension ( -Y- )=> Control value: 93 mm.

Installation dimension of anti-roll bar

For suspension with PDCC ( -Z- )=> Control value: 86 mm

Installation dimension of anti-roll bar with PDCC

This ensures that the position of the anti-roll bar in the support corresponds to the normal vehicle position.

WARNING

Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly

- Risk of squashing
- Risk of damage to components

-> Wear personal protective gear.
-> Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

Information

- The entire threaded parts of the axle must be tightened in vehicle position. Vehicle position means: vehicle standing on the wheels, or the wheel suspension is raised with a universal vehicle lift. Dimension -X- , from lower edge of wing to centre of axle corresponds to vehicle position. The current height can be found in -> 4495TW Adjustment values for suspension alignment . Always observe the following points.

Dimension X - centre of wheel to lower edge of wing (rear axle shown)

Steel springs

- The vehicle position is reached at the front axle by placing the vehicle onto the wheels in a suitable work area (wheel alignment platform, workshop pit).

Air suspension

- The vehicle position is reached at the front axle with air suspension by bleeding the respective air spring using the Porsche System Tester and carefully lifting the respective wheel bearing housing.

- Use an intermediate layer (hard rubber)! Do not damage the brake cover plate.

Lifting wheel carrier (air suspension)

- Screws and nuts are Geomet-coated and must not be greased.

- Grease the toothing of the drive shaft slightly with aluminium paste Optimoly TA.

- Drive shafts must not be left hanging from the joint stop! Tie up.

- Use new screws and lock nuts.

- Use correct tightening torques and torque angles. -> 4X00IN00 Tightening torques for front axle

1. Raise anti-roll bar using transmission jack and place the bearings into the bearing seats.

WARNING

-> Wear personal protective gear.
-> Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

2. The front-axle support is installed in reverse order to removal.

Subsequent work

1. Install front underbody panel -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Installing" 519219 Removing and installing Cover For Front Underbody.
