Symptom

If the ignition is switched off and then back on again on a vehicle with a trailer hitch (I-no. 206), the incorrect warning message "Hitch not locked" can be displayed in the instrument cluster.
The trailer hitch is engaged and locked correctly regardless of the warning message.

Cause, date of introduction and remedial action

Cause

Defective data processing in the trailer hitch control unit causes this incorrect warning message to be displayed in the instrument cluster.

Date of introduction

08.12.2009; control units with updated software are installed in vehicles as of the following vehicle identification numbers:

97 ZAL 044127 Panamera S
97 ZAL 082072 Panamera Turbo

Remedial action
1. If a complaint is received in relation to a vehicle that was manufactured before the specified date of introduction, check the part number of the installed trailer hitch control unit:
Partly loosen the rear right side trim panel, see -> 700319 Removing and installing side trim panel for rear luggage compartment .
2. If the part number index of the installed control unit is "C" or "D", the control unit must be replaced:

End of remedial action.
3. Secure the rear right side trim panel again, see -> 700319 Removing and installing side trim panel for rear luggage compartment
