Bumper Refinishing
Repaired Bumper1. Clean the entire bumper outer surface with a wax and grease remover such as Ditzler DX-330 or Dupont Prep-Sol.
2. Scuff sand the entire bumper outer surface with 400-600 grit sandpaper or a 3M Scotch pad.
3. Prime any bare areas not previously primed with Ditzler DPX-844/DTX-895 Elastomeric Primer or 3M 05905 primer.
NOTE: Fill any minor imperfections with 3M 05903 putty if necessary and reprime.
4. Clean the entire bumper outer surface again with Ditzler or Dupont wax and grease remover.
5. Wipe bumper outer surface with tack rag.
6. Paint center section of bumper with low gloss black. Then mask this area off prior to color coat.
7. Color coat as follows:
^ Non clearcoat paint colors - Add a flex agent such as Ditzler DX-369 or Dupont 355S to acrylic lacquer or enamel color coat per instructions on flex agent container; then apply color coat.
^ Clearcoat paint colors - Apply Dupont lacquer base coat per instructions on paint container (do not use any flex agent in the base coat); then apply Dupont 580S urethane clearcoat over base coat per instructions on clearcoat container. An equivalent urethane base coat-clear coat system may also be used.
NOTE: When an acrylic lacquer is used as the base coat on a repaired bumper, a mid-coat adhesion promoter such as Dupont 222S or Ditzler DPX-1900 must be applied before the base coat.
