ALTITUDE PERFORMANCE ADJUSTMENTS

Information

This I.S Note outlines adjustments for optimum performance on 1984 Renault Alliance, Encore, and Fuego Turbo models being operated at high or low altitudes.

NOTE: The California Fuego Turbo 136A model is the only 1984 Renault vehicle requiring altitude adjustment. 1984 Alliance, Encore, and 49-State Fuego Turbo models do not require adjustment. The electronic control systems on these models have built-in compensating circuits that make necessary adjustments automatically.

When necessary, perform the engine adjustments outlined in the Adjustment Procedures portion of this I.S. Note. In addition, any California Renault Fuego Turbo that is so adjusted must have a unique Emission Control Information Update label installed. The part numbers for these unique labels are provided in the following Adjustment Procedures.

The adjustment procedures and unique labels must be made available at no cost to independent repair facilities and the general public. A notification is also provided in current owner's manuals to make customers aware of these adjustments. The Emission Control Information Update labels and technical information are available through the Milwaukee National Parts Distribution Center.

ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES

California Renault Fuego Turbo 136A Models

On California only 136A models originally sold for operation at altitudes below 4,000 feet that are being operated at altitudes above 4,000 feet, addition of an altitude compensating resistor connector board to the fuel injection circuit is the only adjustment required.

RESISTOR CONNECTOR BOARD INSTALLATION:

1. Remove the side panel from the passenger side of the console.

2. Remove the protective sheath from the connector (see illustration).

3. Install resistor connector board, part number 7701 028 536 in the fuel injection harness connector and install the sheath over the connector/resistor board assembly.

4. Install the console side panel and install the Vehicle Emission Control Information Update Label, part number 8933 000 525, next to the original emission control label.

This adjustment applies to 1984 California only Fuego Turbo 136A models that were sold for principal use at altitudes below 4,000 feet. Refer to the Vehicle Emission Control Label in the engine compartment to identify these vehicles.

NOTE: Whenever these vehicles are returned to operation at altitudes below 4,000 feet the altitude compensating resistor connector board must be removed from the fuel injection circuit and Vehicle Emission Control Update Label part number 8933 000 525, must be removed.
On California only 136A models originally sold for operation at altitudes above 4,000 feet that are being operated at altitudes below 4,000 feet, the altitude compensating resistor connector board must be disconnected from the fuel injection circuit.

1. Remove the side panel from the passenger side of the console.

2. Remove the protective sheath from the connector (see illustration).

3. Remove the resistor connector board from the fuel injection harness connector. Place the connector board in the glove box or give it to the owner for future reuse.

4. Install the console side panel and install Vehicle Emission Control Information Update label, part number 8933 000 526, next to the original emission control label.

This adjustment applies to 1984 California only Fuego Turbo 136A models that were sold for principal use at altitudes above 4,000 feet. Refer to the Vehicle Emission Control Label in the engine compartment to identify these vehicles.

NOTE: Whenever these vehicles are retumed to operation at altitudes above 4,000 feet the altitude compensating resistor connector board must be reinstalled and Vehicle Emission Control Information Update Label part number 8933 000 526, must be removed.
