With Tapered Pin Gearshift Rod Joint

1. Place gear shift lever in Reverse, then turn ignition key to locked position.
2. Gear shift rod freeplay should be .12-.16 inch (3-4 mm).
3. Adjust freeplay by positioning gear lever housing forward or backward until freeplay is within specification. Use tool 8790370 or equivalent to remove gear lever housing attaching bolts.

With Clamped Gearshift Rod Joint

1. Pry out and lift rubber boot from console.
2. Loosen pinch bolt at selector rod joint.
3. Lock gear selector lever in reverse by inserting a .157 inch (4 mm) drill bit through holes in gear selector lever and gear selector lever housing.
4. Connect the selector rod to selector rod joint and tighten pinch bolt to 22-25 ft.lbs.
