Operation
Cars delivered to certain markets, including the U.S.A. market, have provision for the installation of a burglar alarm. A special cable harness and an 8-pole connector (289) for connecting the burglar alarm control unit are included.

The control unit is supplied from pin 1 of connector 289 (+30), regardless of the position of the ignition switch, and from pin 5 (+X), when the ignition switch is in the park, drive or start position.

To prevent the burglar alarm from being set off, the ignition key must be turned within a certain time after a car door has been opened.

The burglar alarm can be switched on and off by means of an "ON/OFF" switch connected to pin 7 (earth/no earth).

If the burglar alarm is activated, the alarm will be set off if one of the following contacts should close:

Door switch 54 or interior lighting switch 53, which are connected to pin 8.

Luggage compartment light switch 56 or the "HOOD" switch, which are connected to pin 6.

Should the alarm be set off, the horn will be supplied via pin 4, and the parking lights via pin 3.

The parking lights are supplied via pin 20 of the 29-pole white connector 152A, and include:

13 Parking lights (front)
14 Rear lights
15 Number plate illumination
81 Driving lights (certain markets)
234 Side marker lights (certain markets)

Note: The wiring varies from one market to another, and between the Combi Coupe and the Sedan

Fault-tracing hints
1. Check that the supply to connector 289 (terminals 1 and 5) is live.

2. Check the burglar alarm ON/OFF switch.

3. Check the door switches, luggage compartment light switch and hood switch, and the corresponding connections to connector 289.

4. Check the connectors, cable harnesses and earth connections.

For fault-tracing hints on the parking lights, see the section entitled "Parking lights".
