161 Switch for the rear fog lights

Operation
Cars for certain markets only, including the European market, are equipped with rear fog lights. The supply (+X) is taken from the ignition switch to light switch 10. This must be in position 2 before the rear fog lights can be switched on (headlamps on full or dipped beam). The supply is then run to switch 161 for the rear fog lights, via the 29-pole red connector 152B and fuse 21.

When the switch for the rear fog lights is pressed in, the two rear fog lights 33 will light up. On the Combi Coupe', the lamps for the rear fog lights are located in the tailgate.

The pin numbers on the two versions of switch 161 differ from each other.

1984 and 1985 models
The lamp incorporated into the switch button is supplied directly when the switch for the rear fog lights is pressed in, so the lamp lights up to full brightness.


1986 models
On the 1986 models, the built-in lamp is not affected by the position of the switch. Instead, rear fog light warning lamp 47N in the combined instrument lights up when the fog lights are switched on.

Fault-tracing hints

1. Check fuse 21 and check that the supply to it is live.

2. Check the bulbs and check that the supplies to them are live. Check the earthing at each lamp.

3. Check the respective cable harness.
