Refer to Fig. 1 for disassembled view of steering column.

When disassembling steering column, ensure to note bolt, nut, screw size, load rating (bolts used will have either a letter, or number or marking indicating load rating, check to see if nuts are castellated or self-locking) and type. When assembling the steering column, ensure to replace bolts, nuts and screws with the same type and/or designation. Do not use sub-standard bolts, nuts or screws. To do so will automatically reduce steering column strength and its collapsible feature in the event of a collision.
