SUBJECT: NEW GEAR SELECTOR MECHANISM ISSUE: 03/86-830 NEW ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

APPLICATION: M86-1/2 SAAB 900 MODELS 5-SPEED TRANSMISSION


A new gear selector mechanism has been introduced into new car production as a running change. This change involves new gearbox and selector mechanism part numbers and a new adjustment procedure. Shown below is the procedure for performing a shift lever adjustment. Please refer to the Parts Microfiche Discrepancy Bulletin (MD 191 2/86) issued on this subject for part number information.

Adjustment Procedure:

1. Select third gear with the shift lever.

2. Loosen the pinch bolt at the gear selector shaft joint ahead of the firewall.

3. Lock the gearshift lever into third gear in the housing with a 6 mm drift.

4. Confirm that third gear in the transmission has been secured.

5. Tighten the pinch bolt at the gearshift joint to 22-26 ft. lbs. (30-35 N-m).
