SUBJECT: INSTALLING REAR WASHER/WIPER KITS ISSUE: 04/87-960
APPLICATION: WASHER/WIPER KIT 02-74-605
This supplemental instruction sheet should be used in conjunction with the installation booklet enclosed with the kit. A non-USA variant (5-door) was used as a model.
Lover the Headliner
1. Open the right rear window and remove the 3 screws securing it to the body. Swing the latch away from the C-pillar lining.
2. Remove the bolt securing the seat belt guide to the C-pillar.
3. Open the rear hatch. Carefully remove the rear hatch gasket for the entire length of the C-pillar lining.
4. Carefully remove the C-pillar lining.
Correction To Instruction Booklet
The installation instructions read as follows on page 8 item 15: "Drill two 5 mm (3/16") holes in the screen frame".
These two holes drilled in the frame of the rear hatch should have a diameter of 4.5 mm (11/64"). Otherwise there is a chance the 6.2 mm self-tapping screws will strip out when tightened.
Alternative Switch Connections
In most instances the dash mounted switch in the kit cannot be used due to the lack of available positions. If this is the case the washer/wiper function must be tied into the windshield/washer wiper stalk mounted on the steering column.
Included In the kit is enough hardware to use at either location.
The next page describes connecting into the stalk mounted windshield washer/wiper.
Once installed the rear wiper/washer is activated whenever the dash mounted switch is depressed or whenever the windshield wiper/washer stalk is pulled towards the driver.
1. Plug the connector housing (with yellow wire) from the bag into the switch connector of the rear wiper harness.
2. Cut the brown/white and the black illumination wires off at the back of the rear wiper harness connector. They are no longer needed.
3. Remove the lower steering column cover to gain access to the wiper switch and wiring.
4. Connect the yellow wire from the jumper harness to the yellow wire of the stalk switch (pos 54) using the red bridge connector provided. (This wire should have power whenever the key is on and the stalk switch is pulled to wash the windshield.)
5. Refit the steering column cover.
The rear washer/wiper will now work whenever the windshield washer/wiper stalk is pulled.
