Operation
The parking lights can be switched on and off by means of switch 10, to which the supply is always live. See the section entitled "Power supply, Distribution terminal +30".
When the light switch is in position 1, the supply is taken across fuses 29 and 30, to parking lights 13. Each of these fuses also supplies one of the rear lights 14, although through filament monitor 228A. If one of the rear-light bulbs should fail, the relay in the filament monitor will be energized and terminal C1 will be earthed. Since a positive voltage is supplied to terminal 7 (1987)/terminal 9 (i988) of pictogram 213 (from fuse 13), the warning lamps for the rear lights and the central warning lamp will light up. For further particulars, see also the section entitled "Pictogram - Filament monitor".
The supply to number plate illumination 15 and to the parking lights of the trailer will always be live when the parking lights are switched on. However, this supply is not connected through the filament monitor.
The supply to the parking lights of a trailer is connected across connector 258.
USA, Canada and Japan
For these markets, the parking lights are supplemented with side marker lights 234.
Fault-tracing hints
The parking lights are switched on by setting switch 10 to position 1.
1. Check fuses 29 and 30 and check that the supply to them is live.
2. Check the bulbs and check that the supply to them is live. Check the earthing at each lamp.
3. Check the operation of switch 10 and filament monitor 228A by measuring at the corresponding terminals.
Note that the supply to the front parking lights, number plate illumination and to the tow bar connector is not connected through the filament monitor.
4. Check fuse 13 which supplies the warning lamps in the pictogram and check that the supply to the fuse is live.
5. Check the connectors, the wiring and the earth connections.
NOTE:
When changing a bulb, always use a bulb of the correct rating. If this is not observed, the warning lamp in the pictogram may light up due to imbalance in the coil of the filament monitor.
