Operation
Instrument lighting rheostat 16 is equipped with external electronic unit 240, which enables it to withstand a higher load.

The lighting for instruments and controls receives its supply from fuse 3, provided that the ignition switch is in the drive position. Rheostat 16 can be used for varying steplessly the intensity of the lighting for the connected components.

The following components receive their supplies from pin 3 of the rheostat
91 Selector lever lamp
162 Switch for left-hand front electric window regulator
163 Switch for right-hand front electric window regulator
181 Switch for the electrically operated sunroof
189 Interlock switch for the rear-door electric window regulators
190 Switch for left-hand rear electric window regulator
190A Switch for left-hand rear electric window regulator
191 Switch for right-hand rear electric window regulator
191A Switch for right-hand rear electric window regulator
246 Switch for rear-door fans (1988)

The following components receive their supplies from pin 5:
18 Lighting for combined instrument 47
49/241 Clock or DCC trip computer
210 EDU1/EDU2 trip computer

The following components receive their supplies from pin 2:
10 Light switch
116 Switch for the electrically heated rear window
143 Recirculation switch
148 Lighting for the front ashtray
154 Lighting for the heater controls
161 Switch for rear fog lights
169 Switch for the AC
216 Climate control unit
252 Rheostat for the heating pad, driver's seat
253 Rheostat for the heating pad, co-driver's seat
267 Dial illumination for the radio

Switch 88 for the extra fog lights receives its supply from pin 9 of the rheostat.

The intensity of the light in the rheostat is also controlled.

Fault-tracing hints

1. Check fuse 3 and check that the supply to it is live.
2. Check that the supply to pin 7 of the rheostat is live.
3. Check that power is supplied from pins 5, 2 and 9 on the rheostat, and that the supply and earth connections at each component are satisfactory.

To check transistor 240
Remove the connector from rheostat 16. While it is disconnected, measure in the connector as follows:

Note:
Carry out this check first, since the rheostat can be damaged if the transistor is faulty.
