Operation
Headlamp wipers are fitted to all cars except those for the US market.
The supply is taken from fuse 7 to both wiper motors 66 and from fuse 8 to switch 61, which controls the wiper motors.
When the stalk switch is moved towards the steering wheel rim (position P), headlamp wiper motors 66 and washer motor 63 will start simultaneously.
When the stalk is released and the circuit is opened, the wiper motors will still be energized (across fuse 7). When the wiper motors have completed a cycle of five strokes, the limit switches incorporated into the motors will open the circuit and the wipers will stop in the parked position.
A diode in each motor prevents the current from the feedback circuit of the motor from flowing back to the washer motor.
Each wiper motor incorporates overload protection with a protective switch which is actuated by a PTC resistor. The switch is in series with the motor and will trip if the load should exceed a predetermined value (e.g. if the wiper blades have frozen to the lenses).
Fault-tracing hints
The headlamp wipers and the washer motor will be come operative as soon as the ignition switch is set to the drive position.
Carry out the checks with switch 61 set to 0
1. Check fuses 7 and 8 and check that the supply to them is live.
2. Check that terminal 15 of the switch is live.
3. Check that cables 95C and 95A to connector 57 are live.
