Operation
The seat-belt and ignition key warning system is fitted only on cars for USA, Canada and Japan.
The warning system reminds the driver that he has not fastened his seat belt, or that the key is still in the ignition switch when he leaves the car.
The system includes warning relay 82, which has a built-in buzzer. When the ignition switch is in the drive position, terminal 15 on the relay will be connected to supply +15 across fuse 13.
Seat-belt warning
When the ignition switch is in the drive position, the warning relay is also supplied (+54) from fuse 3, via seat-belt warning lamp 72.
If the seat belt is not fastened, terminal GF of the relay will be earthed by driver's seat-belt switch 70. The warning lamp will then light up and the buzzer will sound. When the seat-belt buckle is inserted into the lock, the switch will open and the lamp will be extinguished.
Ignition-key warning
As long as the key remains in the ignition switch, the supply will be run from terminal B of the ignition switch to the warning relay.
If the key is in the ignition switch when the driver's door is opened, door switch 54 will close. Terminal 1 of the relay is then earthed and the buzzer will sound.
Fault-tracing hints
The seat-belt and ignition-key warning system will be operative when the ignition switch is in the drive position.
1. Check fuses 3 and 13 check that the supply to them is live.
2. Check warning lamp 72 and check that the supply to the relay is live.
3. Also check that terminals 3 and 15 of the relay are live.
4. Check the door switches, connectors, wiring and earth connections.
