Operation
Cars delivered to certain markets, including the USA, have provision for the installation of a burglar alarm.
A special cable harness and eight-pole connector 289 for connecting the control unit for the burglar alarm are included.
The supply (+30) for the control unit is taken across pin I of connector 289 from fuse 22, regardless of the ignition switch setting.
The control unit receives its +15 supply from fuse 13 across pin 5 when the ignition switch is in the drive or start position.
To prevent the burglar alarm from being set off, the ignition key must be turned within 10 or 20 seconds after a car door has been opened.
The motion detector can be switched on and off by means of ON/OFF switch 288, which is connected to pin 7 of the control unit (earth/no earth).
If the burglar alarm is activated, the alarm will be set off if one of the following contacts should close:
- Door switch 54 connected to pin 8
- Luggage compartment light switch 56 or HOOD switch 276 connected to pin 6.
If the alarm has been set off, a positive voltage will be supplied to pin 4 of horn connector 275 and pin 3 for the parking lights.
The parking lights include:
13 Parking lights (front)
14 Rear lights
15 Number plate illumination
234 Side marker lights (certain markets)
If headlamps 11 or 12 or the fog lights (certain markets) are switched on when the alarm is set off, they will also flash.
Fault-tracing hints
1. Check fuses 13 and 22.
2. Check that the supply to terminals 1 and 5 of connector 289 is live.
3. Check the ON/OFF switch for the motion detector.
4. Check the operation of the door switches, luggage compartment light switch and hood switch, and the corresponding connections to connector 289.
5. Check the connectors, wiring and earth connections.
