SUBJECT:
Electrical Connector Pin Removal Tool

APPLICATION: All 900 and 9000 Models

Beginning in late-1989 production, many of the electrical connectors on both 900 and 9000 models are fitted with improved female pin terminals. The new terminals have two locking labs instead of the single tab used previously. This new design provides improved resistance to pins being pushed back out of the connector housing.

In order to ease the removal of these new-design terminals, a special tool, P/N 85 80 094, is now available. This tool is specifically designed for removing the terminals used in Saab electrical connectors, both single and double locking tab variants, "Generic" connector pin removal tools available from tool jobbers can damage connector housings and pin terminals and should not be used on Saab cars.

This tool has been designated as a required special tool and was automatically be sent to all Saab dealers in early March,

^ Spare Tip Set (3 tips) P/N 85 80 102

Price:
For the initial dealer distribution of this tool only, Saab will charge a special price of $42.30. This special price will not apply to later dealer purchases which will be charged at a dealer net price of $61.30.

NOTES FOR USING THE TERMINAL REMOVAL TOOL

1. Select the appropriate end of the removal tool. The single finger is designed for terminals with one locking tab, and the double fingers are intended for terminals with two tabs.

2. Before inserting the removal tool into the connector housing. push forward on the wire so the terminal is forced to the front of the connector housing (Figure 2). This will help keep the locking tabs from being stuck in the connector housing and possibly being deformed. Deformed tabs may make it impossible to remove the terminal without causing damage to the connector housing.

3. Carefully insert the tool into the connector housing until the tool "bottoms" at the back of the housing, then pull the wire and terminal out.

Note
Do not twist the removal tool in the connector housing. If the pin does not seem to release immediately, pull back slightly on the tool and then attempt to withdraw the pin again.

4. Before reinserting the terminal into the housing. Inspect the locking tabs and bend them up slightly if necessary.
