Version coding M91-M93

On M91-M93 cars there are only two versions which share the same control module and are coded.

These are the B202 TWC with and without ETS.

Fault symptom

The car runs on basic boost pressure only.

Conditions

Terminal 2 is connected to ground or battery positive (B+).

Diagnostic procedure

1 Check the control module
- Check that the right control module is fitted by selecting command code 285.
- Compare with "Summary of control modules".Application and ID

Is the right control module fitted?
YES Continue with point 2.
NO Change to the right control module and continue with point 3.

Note: Cars with LH 2.4 with ETS should be coded by connecting a jumper lead between pins 2 and 3 in connector H3-9. Other cars should not have a jumper lead between these pins.

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

- Select command code 286 on the ISAT scan tool. The following versions are possible:

8E200 = control module pin 1 connected to ground (control module pin 13/connector H3-9 pin 1)
8E300 = pin 1 connected to battery voltage (control module pin 21/connector H3-9 pin 3).

Is the coding correct?
YES Continue with point 3.
NO Repair or replace the lead in question and proceed to point 3.

3 Final check

- Clear the diagnostic trouble code.

- Implementation of driving cycle:
Drive the car at varying engine loads and rpm for 5 minutes.

- Evaluation of driving cycle:

Does the diagnostic trouble code recur?
YES Continue with "Before control module replacement". Service and Repair
NO The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
