Engine load signal, malfunction


Fault symptom

The car runs on basic boost pressure only.


Conditions

The engine load signal is constant for 1 minute. (The diagnostic trouble code may be detected if the car is driven at an extremely steady speed.)


Diagnostic procedure




1 Check functionality

- Connect a BOB (M91- an engine load signal reading can be obtained with SAT scan tool command 287).

- Start the engine and run it at idling speed.

- Connect a multimeter to pins 36 and 13.

Signal frequency should be about 28 Hz and increase with increasing engine speed.

Result OK?
YES Continue with point 2.
NO Repair or replace the lead from the LH control module and continue with point 2.




2 Final check

- Clear the diagnostic trouble code.

- Implementation of driving cycle:

Drive the car at varying engine loads and rpm for 5 minutes.

- Evaluation of driving cycle:

Check whether the diagnostic trouble code recurs.

Does the diagnostic trouble code recur?
YES Continue with "Before Control Module Replacement". Service and Repair
NO The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
