Checking the Basics

Before Starting Fault Diagnosis

Sometimes the electronic Systems are suspected of being faulty when in actual fact the engine or other auxiliary Systems are at fault. Before starting fault diagnosis on the electronic Systems, always remember to check the following points first:
- battery condition
- engine condition
- charging system
- other auxiliary systems
- cable connections
- grounding points

Apart from a thorough knowledge of the systems concerned, the availability of diagnostic equipment is essential for successful fault diagnosis. Since the built-in self-diagnostic programs of the systems continuously monitor and record most of the faults that can arise, both persistent and intermittent, it is extremely easy with the diagnostic instrument to pinpoint the fault, remedy it and then check that the system is in proper working order.
