Scan Tool Testing and Procedures
Fault Diagnosis With An ISAT Scan ToolThe ISAT (Intelligent Saab Tester) scan tool is primarily designed for fault diagnosis in electronic systems incorporating self-diagnosis, such as the Saab DI, LH, TCS, EDU, ACC 2 and others. In systems of this type, faults (including intermittent ones) are diagnosed and stored in the system's control module (EDU). By means of the ISAT scan tool, the system's stored fault information can be retrieved and the fault presented in the form of a five-digit code on the ISAT scan tool's display.
Data link connector
Fault diagnosis in the LH system is performed via the black data link connector.

ISAT Scan Tool Points To Remember
Static electricity, ESD
See the "Handling control modules" section. Service Precautions This applies in the highest degree also to the ISAT scan tool and especially the replacement of the ISAT scan tool's memory module.
An electrostatic discharge against the ISAT scan tool's display could ruin it.
Connection
Plugging the ISAT scan tool into the data link connector and unplugging it must be done with the ignition switch in the OFF position
Communication connection
On completion of diagnosis, when communication between the selected system and the ISAT scan tool is to be terminated, the command "END" is recommended.
ISAT scan tool program crashing
When using the ISAT scan tool it may happen that the program crashes and the display either freezes or goes completely blank.
The reason for this is a bug in the ISAT scan tool's internal software. Pressing keys does not help and the only way to restore the ISAT scan tool's program is to disconnect its internal battery.
Important An incorrect or flat battery may upset communication between the car and the ISAT scan tool.
