1. On models equipped with airbag passive restraint system, disarm airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts as needed.
2. On models without airbag disconnect battery ground cable.
3. On all models, remove lefthand seat, then the trim cover below steering column, Fig. 1.
4. On models with a center console, remove console as follows:
a. Squeeze together rubber boot on gear lever to free retaining bolts and slide boot up.
b. Remove four ashtray holder attaching screws, then the bolt securing holder to instrument panel.
c. Disconnect ashtray bulb electrical connector, then remove ashtray holder from console and instrument panel.
d. Remove six console to frame and console to car body attaching screws, then the console and frame assembly from the vehicle.
5. On all models, remove instrument panel lower trim panel.
6. Remove locking screw for upper joint of intermediate shaft in steering assembly.
7. Unhook brake and clutch pedal return springs, then disconnect instrument panel electrical connectors.
8. Remove speaker/defroster grills and remove screws in upper section of the panel.
9. Disconnect speedometer cable, then the lead from righthand door switch and pull lead into passenger compartment.
10. Remove instrument panel attaching bolts, then disconnect heater housing vacuum connections located in the engine compartment.
11. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
