W/Automatic Transmission
Calibration must be carried out after replacing any major system component, such as ETS ECU, ASR ECU, pedal potentiometer, throttle housing, kickdown wire motor.1. Before calibration is done, the kickdown cable should be adjusted as follows:
a. Loosen clamp on cable sheath. Leave kickdown cable attached to lever.
b. Move lever to fully extended position (right side of vehicle) against the mechanical stop. Hold lever in this position until step D is complete.
c. Pull kickdown cable sheath past kickdown position to full throttle mechanical stop in transmission.
d. Tighten kickdown cable sheath clamp while holding full throttle position.
2. Start and run engine until normal operating temperature is reached. If engine will not run correctly during warm up cycle, establish ISAT communications and enter command code 974 in order to enter basic data and enable warm up to be completed.
3. Switch off engine. Connect ISAT and capacitor lead part No. 86-11-048 to the Black diagnostic connector.
4. Turn ignition On, select DIAG, ONE system from menu, and enter system number 3. Check if any fault codes are stored in memory. If fault codes are present, repair as necessary, then erase fault codes before proceeding.
5. With ignition On, engine Off, enter command code 971:
a. Several seconds after entering command code 971, ISAT will terminate communications.
b. Wait 30 seconds (ASR and ETS will store base line settings at this time.
6. Re-establish communication with ISAT. With ignition On, engine Off, enter command code 973:
a. Once TCS CTRL light illuminates, start engine. Do not touch pedals.
b. Wait for idle to stabilize at approximately 850 RPM.
c. When TCS CTRL light starts to flash, press and hold cruise control Set Speed button within 10 seconds. Keep button depressed until calibration process is complete (TCS CTRL light will shut off when calibration is complete).
d. The ECU will pull kickdown wire to its maximum position and idle position. The ECU will also increase engine speed to approximately 3000 RPM.
7. Calibration procedure will be discontinued if any of the following occur:
a. Set button is not depressed within 10 seconds of TCS CTRL light beginning to flash.
b. Set button is depressed before the TCS CTRL light starts to flash.
c. Set button is released before calibration process is completed.
d. Set button is inoperative.
e. A pedal is depressed.
f. Vehicle starts to roll.
g. Gear selector position is changed.
8. When calibration process is complete, the TCS CTRL light will shut off. Terminate ISAT communications and shut off engine. Check if any fault codes were stored during calibration procedure.
