Component Tests
Component And Signal TestingCarry out testing by beginning with point 1 and covering all points up to point 9. Connections are the same as for "How to Read and Clear Trouble Codes".
Important: For this test, set the switch to the "ON" position before switching on the ignition.
1 Set the switch to the "ON" position.
2 Switch on the ignition and wait for a short flash of the "CHECK ENGINE" lamp (MIL) and then immediately set the switch to "OFF". The fuel pump should start (if it is not defective) at the same time as the lamp flashes. Listen for the sound of the pump and possibly check the fuel pressure.
Important: The fuel pump will run for only 1 second. No ID code is produced for this test.
3 To proceed with test No.2, i.e. injectors, set the switch to the "ON" position.
4 After a short flash ,set the switch to the "OFF" position.
A code will now be flashed in the same manner as in "How to Read and Clear Trouble Codes", i.e. a long flash begins and ends the code which consists of short flashes only. Check by listening for the sound of the injectors working.
5 Go through the remaining points in the table in the same way. Set the switch to the "ON" position - wait for a short flash - set the switch to "OFF".
