Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Application and ID

General Information

The Mark II ABS System is fitted to selected 1988 thru 1992 model year Saab 9000 models.

The Mark IV ABS System is fitted to all 1993 and later model year Saab 9000 models EXCEPT manual transmission turbo models with the Traction Control System. These cars are equipped as before with the Mark II ABS system.

The Mark II Antilock Brake System

The Mark II Antilock Brake System is a 3-circuit brake system with individual control of two circuits (one for each front wheel) and common control of the third circuit (for the rear wheels).

Instead of a conventional vacuum servo unit, the Mark II ABS System uses hydraulic pressure provided by a High-Pressure Pump. Hydraulic pressure is also stored in a Pressure Accumulator. If the vehicle is fitted with a Pressure Accumulator as shown in image, the vehicle is equipped with the Mark II ABS System.

The Mark IV Antilock Brake System

The Mark IV ABS System is a dual-circuit / four-port braking system. The hydraulic pressure in the individual brake circuits is modulated by the solenoid valves in the valve block, which in turn are controlled by signals from the ECU.

The ABS Mark IV System uses a conventional Vacuum Servo Unit. If the vehicle is fitted with a Vacuum Servo Unit, the vehicle is equipped with the Mark IV ABS System.
