To address a customer complaint, use the following procedure.
Tools
83 95 477 Tool for removing/fitting bushing, torque arm
This tool is available for ordering directly from Kent-Moore at 1-800-345-2233.
Procedure
Some parts must be removed on certain engine variants before the bushing can be changed, for example:
- sections of the intake manifold
- fuel pressure regulator
- fuel rail with pressure regulator
- fuel system pulsator
In addition, the engine in certain cars must be pressed slightly to the left of the car to provide more clearance at the engine mounting.
Refer to service manual for model being serviced for correct procedure and torque arm removal.
Important
Before using the tool, its threaded end must be lubricated with grease 87 81 676.
1 Remove the torque arm and pull out the bolt from the inner sleeve of the bushing.
Important
Take care not to damage any paintwork.
If necessary, the inner sleeve can be tilted slightly with an angled Allen key or similar tool.
2 Make a note of the position of the bushing and mark the engine mount as illustrated. Position the tool and press out the bushing.
3 Mark the new bushing as illustrated.
4 Apply acid-free petroleum jelly (part no. 30 06 665) to the outer sleeve of the new bushing and inside the engine mount, and position the bushing correctly with the bevelled end towards the engine mount.
Important
Make sure the bushing fits true in the engine mount.
5 Press in the new bushing half way.
Important
There is risk of damaging the threaded rod of the tool if the bushing is fitted too deep before reversing the tool.
Reverse the fork of the tool and pull in the bushing until the sleeve is aligned with the engine mount.
6 Insert the bolt into the inner sleeve of the bushing.
Important
Take care not to damage any paintwork.
If necessary, the inner sleeve can be tilted slightly with an angled Allen key or similar tool.
7 Fit the torque arm.
