Correcting Complaint of Squeaking
From Gearshift Mechanism
Application:
Certain 1994 9000 with Manual Transmission
The plastic movement limiter on the gearshift lever may contact the light alloy housing when the gearshift lever is moved from 1st to 2nd and result in a complaint of squeaking. To correct a customer complaint, follow the instructions below.
Cars Affected:
1994 9000 Models with Manual Transmission within the following VIN Serial No. Range:
R1027356-R1028970
Parts:
Motorcraft Di-electric grease 02 44 780
(or Gleitmo 750)
Action:
1. Remove the clip for the side carpet below and to the right side of the gearbox lever. Fold out the side carpet. It is not necessary to remove the center console for this operation.
2. Lift up the air duct so that the gear mechanism is accessible.
3. Apply grease to the limiter movement, using Motorcraft Di-electric grease or Gleitmo 750. Apply with your finger or a brush.
NOTE
Take care not to get any grease on the carpet.
4. Reinstall the side carpet.
