Procedure

Before taking any measures, inspect box A4 (M92 US/CA) or box C2 (M93-94) on the modification identity plate. If the box has not been marked, continue as described below:

1. Make sure the radio's theft protection code is available and disconnect the negative battery cable.

If you have lost the radio code, you can easily obtain it by accessing DCS or IRIS and using the RADIO CODE INQUIRY under the Sales and Warranty screen.

2. Remove the carpet on the passenger side of the center console. On cars with passenger airbag, first remove the carpet trim from the fusebox (5 push pins).

3. Unplug the control module.

4. Remove the control module.

5. Inspect the control module by looking for small green, white or, if not dried, transparent spots.

Look carefully at the screws that secure the plastic cover of the module to its metal base. Moisture can get trapped and dried in the recess for the screws.
No signs of leakage: Go to step 6.
Leakage: Change the control module. Then, go to step 6.

Important:
If active moisture is evident on the control module, and the customer has complained of a coolant smell in the car, replace the heater core P/N 50 46 362. Bear in mind that dried coolant on the control module is not evidence of an active leak. Replaced heater cores should be returned to Saab Cars USA, Inc. where they will be inspected and tested.

Inspect electrical connection for corrosion. Correct as necessary.

6. Fit and connect the control module.

Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.6 lbf ft).

7. Remove the plastic backing on the double-sided adhesive tape inside the cover, see illustration.

8. Position the cover over the control module, see Illustration.

Important:
The arrows on the control module and the cover must be pointing in the same direction.

Press the cover onto the control module so that the double-sided adhesive tape fastens properly.

9. Fit the carpet on the passenger side of the center console and carpet trim from the fusebox, if removed.

10. Connect the negative battery cable, adjust the clock and program the radio code where necessary.

11. Connect the diagnostic tool and clear any diagnostic trouble codes present in the system.

12. Start the car and make sure the SRS lamp comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes out. Disconnect the diagnostic tool.

Marking the campaign plate

After taking these measures, box A4 (M92 US/CA) or box C2 (M93-94) on the campaign plate must be marked. Mark the box with a numeral "8" (Saab Special Tool P/N 02 97 713). If needed, order this special tool directly from Kent-Moore at 1-800-345-2233.
