P1211
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P1211, P1212
Idle air control valve, control module output, no continuity or shorting to ground/batt+
Fault Symptoms
Idle slow, fast or hunting.
Idle sensitive to load changes.
Condition
In the event of a short circuit or open circuit a diagnostic trouble code will be generated.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Connect the Scan Tool.
Ignition switch in the ON position.
Select "ACTIVATE"
Select "IAC VALVE".
This command activates the valve at a frequency of 0.5 Hz for 30 seconds.
Listen for the sound of the valve operating.
If the valve clicks, proceed to step 4.
If it does not, continue with step 2.
2. Check the resistance of the valve.
Unplug the valve's 2-pin connector and measure the resistance across pins 1 and 2 of the male connector.
- Nominal resistance is 7.7 ± 1 ohm at 20°C.
If the resistance is not OK, fit a new valve.
If the resistance is OK, continue with step 3.
3. Check the valve's electrical interface.
Carry out the following tests on the valve's female 2-pin connector.
Ignition switch in the ON position.
^ Voltage measurement
Connect the test lamp across pin 2 and battery negative.
- The test lamp should light up.
If it does not, check the lead between pin 2 of the female connector and crimped connection J128 for continuity.
^ Connect the test lamp across pins 1 and 2.
Select "ACTIVATE"
Select "IAC VALVE".
- The test lamp should flash at a frequency of 0.5 Hz for 30 seconds.
If it does not or if it lights up and stays on, check the lead between pin 1 of the valve connector and pin 4 of the control module for continuity/shorting.
If the lead is OK, continue at "Procedure Before ECM Replacement". Component Tests
If all the results are OK, continue with step 4.
4. Clear the diagnostic trouble code and drive the car to see whether the DTC is generated again.
If the diagnostic trouble code is generated again, continue at "Procedure Before ECM Replacement". Component Tests
If the trouble code is not generated again the remedial measure taken was correct, otherwise the fault is of intermittent type.
