Lighting
Saab 9000 models are equipped with a lighting system which includes head amps, front and rear light clusters, side direction indicators, number late lighting, interior lighting, instrument and control lighting, courtesy lights, engine bay and luggage compartment lighting.
A high-level brake light is also installed to cars for certain markets.
A pictogram incorporated in the main instrument display panel monitors the bulbs in the headlamps and rear light clusters. The headlamps are built into the front of the car and installed with replaceable lenses not US, JP).
The headlamp bulbs are of two-filament type for main and dipped beams. The dipswitch is incorporated in the direction indicator stalk on the left-hand side below the steering wheel. A blue indicator lamp in the main instrument display panel lights up when the headlamps are on main beam.
Depending on the market specification, the car is equipped with headlamps having a left-hand or right-hand asymmetric dipped beam.
Headlamps
Certain model year cars delivered to certain markets are equipped with a dim dipped beam system, i.e. dipped beams are switched on at 10% of their normal when the parking lights are switched on.
This system includes a resistor, located right at the front in the engine bay, and two relays in the main relay and fuse box behind the glove box.
Front light cluster
The front light clusters incorporate direction indicators, parking lights and daylight driving lights. In certain markets they also incorporate side reversing lights and side marker lights.
The lenses cannot be removed from the lamps. Rear light clusters
The rear light clusters incorporate direction indicators, rear lights, brake lights, reversing lights and a rear fog light (not US).
The lenses cannot be removed from the lamps.
High-level brake light
The high-level brake light is located in the center of the rear window at the bottom on 5-d CC and CD models and at the top on the CS model.
Side direction Indicators
The side directions indicators are installed towards the rear of each front wing.
Number plate lighting
The number-plate lighting consists of two lamps, one on each side of the tailgate handle. On CS models the number-plate lighting is integrated with the trim panel.
Interior lighting
The interior lighting consists of a lamp in the center of the roof, a lamp In the interior rear-view mirror, a swivelling spotlight in the front roof console, and a fixed spotlight on each of the rear pillars.
In certain markets, the roof lamp and the lamp in the interior rear-view mirror are wired through a time- delay relay and remain on for about 15 seconds after the doors have been closed or until the ignition is switched on.
Courtesy lights
The courtesy lights installed to every door are designed so that a white light illuminates the door opening at the same time as a red' light on the trailing edge of the door tells other road-users that the door is open.
Engine bay lighting
The engine-bay lamp is installed to the bonnet.
Luggage compartment lighting
The luggage compartment lamp is installed on the right-hand side of the luggage compartment.
Lighting for instruments and controls
The car is equipped with a number of lamps for illuminating the instruments, heater control panel, ashtray, glove box and certain controls.
