Headlamps

When the headlamps are switched on, the parking lights, which also include the rear lights and number plate lighting, will also light up.

Main Beam 11
Ignition switch 20 must be in the Drive position before main beams can be switched on. Current will then be supplied to lights switch 10, terminal X. Dipswitch 215 is spring-loaded.

When lights switch 10 is in position 2, lighting relay 8 is supplied with operating current from terminal 56 of the lights switch. The "upper coil" of lighting relay 8 operates and contact is made between relay terminals 30 and 56b.

Pressing dipswitch 215 once energizes the "lower" coil and contact is made between terminals 30 and 56a of lighting relay 8.

Current is then supplied to main beam filaments 11 via terminal 56a of lighting relay 8, filament monitor 228b and fuses 7 and 8 (current for main beam indicator lamp 47g is also supplied via fuse 7).

When the main beams are switched on, current for the parking lights is obtained from lights switch position 2 via terminal 58.

Headlamp Flasher
Main beams can also be activated irrespective of the position of the ignition switch and lights switch by holding dipswitch 215 depressed. Both relay coils in lighting relay 8 are then energized and current is supplied to the main beam filaments via filament monitor 228B and fuses 7 and 8.

Dipped Beams 12
When lights switch 10 is in position 2, lighting relay 8 is supplied with operating current from terminal 56 of the lights switch. The "upper" coil of lighting relay 8 operates and contact is made between relay terminals 30 and 56b. Current is then supplied to dipped beam filaments 12 via terminal 56b of lighting relay 8, filament monitor 228b and fuses 5 and 6.

When dipped beams are switched on, current for the parking lights is supplied from lights switch terminal 58.

Filament Monitor 228b
If one of the main or dipped beam filaments fails, the relay in the filament monitor will operate and terminal C2 will be grounded. Since positive current is applied to terminal 5 of pictogram 213, the headlamp indicator lamps and the central warning lamp will light up, See Pictogram-Filament monitor.

Indicator Lamp, Lights On, 47v
Cars for certain markets have an indicator lamp (47v) which shows when the headlamps are switched on. The indicator lamp is supplied with current via terminal 58 of lights switch 10.
