Removal/Installation

NOTE:
^ Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.
^ As a pre-condition the gearbox must be removed.





Replacement
Removal
1. Install flywheel holder tool No. 83 94 868, or equivalent, to lock flywheel.
2. Remove the screws which hold the pressure plate and remove the clutch.
Inspection Of Dismantled Clutch
3. Check the plate's contact surface in the flywheel.
- If the surface is blue annealed and has small cracks, this is of little significance.
- However, if there are deep scratches, the flywheel should be turned in a lathe or be changed.
4. Check the pressure plate in the spring unit for any scratches and deformity.
- If there are any irregularities, it should be changed.
5. Check the de-clutching bearing for noise, wear and similar.
6. Check the wear on the plate and change it if necessary.
Installation
7. Place plate and pressure plate on the flywheel and loosely attach the screws.
8. Center the plate with centering drift tool No. 87 92 327, or equivalent, and tighten the screws alternately.
- Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.)
9. Install the gearbox.
