Directions for replacing the anti-theft alarm without VSS (ATA)

Cars affected

Saab 9000 M95- with anti-theft alarm without VSS.

Background

This SI attends to the questions and complications that may arise when replacing and programming remote controls and electronic control modules for anti-theft alarms without VSS.

Page numbers quoted in the text refer to Service Manual 3:5 "Anti-theft alarm, Anti-theft alarm with VSS".

Procedure

Make sure the anti-theft alarm fitted is without VSS.

When Tech 2 is connected for alarm diagnostics, a text is displayed showing the type of alarm fitted on the car.

Diagnosis

Make a practice of always having the ignition ON when diagnosing with Tech 2.

The procedure is divided into two sections:

A Electronic control modules

B Remote control units

A. Electronic control modules Electronic control module replacement under warranty

An electronic control module that is being replaced under warranty must be disarmed and the remote controls deprogrammed with the command "DEPROGRAM ALL" as described on page 184 in the service manual.

Important
If the alarm ECM cannot be deprogrammed, the remote control must be submitted on the same claim. Note in the claim text the remote was replaced due to the alarm ECM failing to deprogram both.

Parts must be sent TOGETHER on the same claim to Warranty Parts testing when requested. Failure to follow these procedures will result in the alarm ECM being returned to your dealership and a charge back of the entire claim amount.

B. Remote control units

Checking the functionality of the remote control unit

Connect Tech 2 to a car with a functioning alarm. The remote control does not need to be programmed for the car it is being tested on.

Select the "READ VALUES" - "REMOTE CONTROL" menu. When the appropriate button on the remote control unit is pressed, this will be indicated on the diagnostic tool's display.

Replacing a remote control

If all remote control units are missing or unserviceable, the following steps should be taken when:

^ Alarm disarmed

New remote control units can be programmed. When the remote control units are to be programmed, the DEPROGRAM ALL" command (see page 184) must be given before programming "REMOTE CONTROL" (see page 183).
