Central locking System - Supply Fuse Relocation
SI No. 831-2075PI No.
Date: January 2000

Change of supply to fuse for central locking system
Cars affected
All Saab 9000 M96-
Background
Under certain conditions, fuse 16 (central locking system, interior lighting and back-up lights) can blow. This may happen when either the interior or back-up lights are on when the central locking system is activated.
This SI describes a procedure to remove the central locking system from fuse 16 and install in an open position at fuse 15. This allows the central locking system to operate on its own fuse and not be affected by other systems.
In the case of customer complaints whereby fuse 16 continually blows the power supply can be re-routed as described in this SI.
Parts required
51 07 891 Kit, central locking system supply (CA: 30584869)
79 74 645 Fuse9 15 A (CA: 30509177)
Procedure
1 Check that the radio code is available.
2 Disconnect the negative cable on the battery.
3 Remove the lower panels on both the driver and passenger side.
4 Remove the air ducts.
5 V6: Remove the engine control module, position under the instrument unit
6 Tilt down the fuse board.
7 Remove the dashboard lower storage compartment.
8 Pull out the radio a short way and remove the ACC unit.
9 Remove fuse 23.
10 Remove the 12 volt supply pin to fuse 23 (4 mm) using the removal tool 85 80 151. Fit the connector 49 48 618 on the removed cable.
Important
Press down the lock on the sleeve securely.
11 Find the branched adapter wiring (part no. 51 06 299) and fit one of the pins on the supply side to fuse position 23 and the other on the supply side to the available fuse position 15.
12 Connect the previously removed cable to the adapter wiring.
13 Find the long wiring harness (part no 51 07 214) and fit the sleeve pin in the empty position at fuse position 15.
14 Secure the wiring harness to the stem of the wiring harness by the fuse board with a cable tie
15 Run the cable from the fuse board to the central locking unit along the car's ordinary wiring harness except by the heating and ventilation unit.
On the right side of the heating and ventilation unit the cable tie should be positioned by the change in the tape winding.
By the heating and ventilation unit the cable can be secured to one of the attaching lugs on the heating and ventilation unit.
On the left side of the heating and ventilation unit the cable should be secured to the ordinary wiring harness by the connectors. The cable must be firmly secured to the wiring harness duct under the steering column.
! WARNING
Check that the cable does not run against any sharp edges. Guide them away and secure the cable if necessary.
16 Remove the connector from the central locking unit. Slide the lock to one side and remove pin number 4 (blue).
17 Fit connector 91 23 548 to the pin and connect the cable from fuse 15 (red) to position 4 in the central locking unit connector. Slide back the lock and plug in the connector.
18 Cut the terminal end from removed cable (blue). Tape the end and secure the cable to the wiring harness. Care should be taken that the end of the cable is not exposed.
19 Put in a 15 A fuse in position 15 and affix the new label.
20 Put back fuse 23 and check that the central locking system works by locking and unlocking the car.
21 Fit the ACC unit and push in the radio.
22 Refit the dashboard lower storage compartment and fit the fuse board.
23 V6: Fit the engine control module, positioned under the instrument unit.
24 Connect the air ducts and fit the lower panels.
25 Connect the negative cable to the battery. Program the radio code, adjust the car clock and press 5 times on the lock/unlock button on the remote control to synchronize the remote control with the anti-theft alarm.
