Replacement of ashtray housing
Background
An improved ashtray housing has been introduced to rectify problems with the ashtray not staying closed or breaking.
The ashtray housing should be replaced on all 9-5 models in your dealership's ne* car inventory within the VIN Serial No. Range listed below.
Cars affected
Saab 9-5 models with VIN Serial No. Ranges:
X3000001-X3004505
Material:
Ashtray, wooden: 46 39 043 Ashtray, plastic: 46 15 696
Automatic shipments of ashtrays may be of mixed stock: wooden or plastic. You are only using the inner housing so it doesn't matter what stock is received.
Procedure:
Replace the ashtray housing as follows:
1. Remove the ashtray by pressing down on the silver insert and pull it out.
2. Remove both heated seat switches and, depending on what variant you're working on, the seat fan switches as well. Take care when removing these switches to avoid damaging the wood dash surround.
Once these switches are removed, you can access the ashtray housing from the rear.
3. Using two small pocket screwdrivers, press down on the two tabs at the top front of the insert housing. These locking tabs are located approximately 35mm from the outer edge of the housing. At the same time, push out the housing from the rear.
4. Install a new ashtray housing, making certain it is firmly in place.
5. Refit the ashtray and verify proper ashtray operation.
