Trailing Arm: Service and Repair
Longitudinal link
To remove
1. Raise the car and remove the wheel.
2. Press the brake pistons back using a pair of slip joint pliers.
3. Remove the brake line bracket from the longitudinal link.
4. Undo the two brake caliper retaining bolts. Hang up the brake caliper by means of a cable tie.
5. Unplug the ABS sensor's connector.
6. Remove the damper's lower retaining bolt.
7. Undo the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.
8. Unbolt the handbrake cable bracket from the longitudinal link.
9. Unhook the handbrake cable's return spring and remove the cable.
10. Remove the bolt securing the anti-roll bar to the longitudinal link.
11. Undo the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.
12. Remove the bolts securing the longitudinal link to the car body and lower away the link with hub and brake disk
13. Unbolt the rear wheel hub with backplate from the longitudinal link
14. Clamp too[ 89 96 753 (KM-901) in place as shown.
15. Remove the nut and bolt from the longitudinal link's bush and remove the tool.
16. Remove the body bracket from the longitudinal link's bush.
To fit
1. Fit the body bracket back in place on the longitudinal link's bush.
2. Clamp tool 89 96 753 (KM-901) in place as shown.
3. Tighten the nut and bolt retaining the body bracket.
Tightening torque 90 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) +60°.
4. Use a wire brush to clean the wheel hub's mating surface.
5. Fit the wheel hub on the longitudinal link, using new nuts. Tighten the nuts alternately.
Tightening torque 50 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) +30°.
6. Offer up the longitudinal link to the body and fit the retaining bolts but do not tighten then
7. Tighten the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.
Tightening torque 90 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) +60°.
8. Tighten the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.
Tightening torque 50 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
9. Hook the handbrake cable on and refit the return spring.
10. Fit the bolt securing the handbrake cable bracket to the longitudinal link.
11. Tighten the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.
Tightening torque 90 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) +60°.
12. Tighten the damper's lower retaining bolt. Tightening torque: 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).
13. Plug in the ABS sensor's connector.
Fit the brake caliper, apply threadlocking adhesive to the retaining bolts and tighten them
Tightening torque 80 Nm (60 ft. lbs.).
15. Refit the brake line bracket on the longitudinal link.
16. Fit the wheel.
Tightening torque 120 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). Lower the car to the floor.
17. Depress the brake pedal to press out the pistons in the brake calipers.
