Brake Pedal Assy: Service and Repair


To Remove
1. Move the seat to its rearmost position.
(LHD) Remove the battery.





2. (LHD) Lift up the main fuse box and maxi fuse holder.
3. (LHD) Unplug the switch's connector and remove the main fuse box holder.
4. (LHD) Unplug the engine wiring harness connector and remove its holder from the bulkhead partition.
(RHD) Remove the brake servo unit.





5. Remove the retaining nuts from the brake servo bracket/pedal assembly.
(RHD) Remove the dashboard.
6. (LHD) Remove the lower section of the dashboard.





7. (LHD) Remove the stepping motor.
8. (LHD) Use adhesive tape to secure the steering wheel to the dashboard.
9. Loosen the steering shaft U-Joint from the steering gear without separating the spines.





10. (LHD) Remove the bolts securing the pedal assembly to the steering column assembly.
11. Unplug the pedal switch connections.
12. (LHD) Unhook the return spring from the pedal.
13. (LHD) Remove the circlip and withdraw the pin.
14. (RHD) Unbolt the steering column assembly from the body and pedal assembly and move it as far to the rear as position.
15. Lift out the pedal assembly.

To Fit
1. Fit the pedal assembly loosely to the steering column assembly and place the foam rubber damper in position between the pedal assemblies.
2. (RHD) Refit the steering column U-Joint.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





3. Tighten the pedal assembly nuts in the engine bay.
(RHD) Fit the brake servo unit.





4. (LHD) Fit the main fuse box holder and switch.
5. (LHD) Fit the maxi fuse holder and main fuse box.
6. (LHD) Fit the battery in place and connect its cables.
7. (LHD) Plug in the engine wiring harness connector and mount it and its holder in place.
8. (RHD) Bolt the steering column assembly to the body.
9. Tighten the bolts for the pedal assembly/assemblies to the steering column assembly.





10. (LHD) Fit the steering column UJ.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
11. (LHD) Fit the stepping motor.
12. Fit the pedal switches.





13. (LHD) Fit the pin and circlip. Hook the return spring in position.
14. Plug in the pedal switches and adjust them.
15. (RHD) Fit the dashboard.
16. (LHD) Fit the lower section of the dashboard.
17. Reset the clock and radio code, etc.
