Control Module

The main instrument display is a complete unit with only the front glass replaceable separately.
The main instrument unit has a 22-pin connector.
The control module receives information from its own sensors and contacts and from other systems. The control module processes and uses the information to control the instrument and LEDs. Certain data is sent out on the buses.

On faults the control module stores the trouble codes. When replaced, the new control module must be programmed for parts and immobiliser. The distance travelled by the car, which is stored in the old control module and shown on the display, must be programmed into the new control module.

The instrument unit contains gauges which are controlled by the control module itself with information from other systems and its own sensors. Warning and indicator lamps are controlled by both the own sensors/contacts and other system control modules. All warning, indicator and illumination lamps are LEDs and are not replaceable.

The odometer and tripmeter display is a unit with two digital counters, a six-digit counter for the odometer and a four-digit counter for the tripmeter.
The control module stores the distance travelled and shows this on the display.

Diagnostics
If an internal fault occurs in the main instrument unit's control module, diagnostic trouble code B1605 is set.

Power Supply

Battery Voltage (+30 circuit)

The +30 circuit is supplied via fuse 17 to the main instrument unit pin 1.
The control module uses current from the +30 circuit for its memory.

Battery voltage (+15 circuit)
The +15 circuit is supplied via fuse 27 to the main instrument unit pin 2.
The main instrument unit is activated by current from the +15 circuit.

Diagnostics
If there is no current supply from the +30 circuit, the tripmeter will be zeroed every time the ignition is switched off.
If no +15 current is present, the main instrument unit will not be "woken up". The engine will not start as bus communication has not been "awakened".
The function has no diagnostics.

Ground

The main instrument unit is grounded through pin 18 to ground point G41S.

Diagnostics
If there is no ground, only the indicator lamp for the xenon lighting system will function as this is grounded outside the main instrument. Other functions will not work.
The function has no diagnostics.
