System Overview

System Overview, 4 Cyl.

Short description
The air induction system consists of an air cleaner, mass air flow sensor, connecting pipes hoses, turbocharger and air cooler. The system is connected to the throttle body.
The filer element removes particles of dust from the intake air and also functions as an intake air silencer.
The mass air flow sensor provides the engine management system's control module with continuous information on the air mass consumed by the engine. The mass air flow sensor's signals are processed by the control module which monitors the fuel-air mixture needs of the engine.
For more information on the mass air flow sensor, turbo and charge air cooler, refer to group 2 "Engine".

Components

Air cleaner
The air cleaner is situated in front of the right-hand front wheel and consists of a casing (air chamber) in which a cylindrical air filter element is mounted. The filter element is changed from below. A cover is held in place on the casing by means of four bolts.
There is a connector for the mass air flow sensor on the connecting hose. It is secured by means of hose clips.
Intake air is admitted via an air induction pipe positioned in front of the radiator.
