Work On A Car Equipped With The SRS

Welding
Disconnect the battery's negative cable and cover it before starting any welding work.

Painting
Before painting, cover the ground connections and weld bolts in the SRS control module retaining bracket with masking tape to ensure the integrity of the control module's ground connection.

Electrical work
Electric cables in the airbag system must not be spliced. Splicing can be the cause of system malfunctions which could result in injury or render the system unserviceable.

Work on car body
If work on the car body involves hammering and other impacts, the ignition switch must be in the OFF position.

Work on the steering gear
If any work is carried out when the coil spring (contact roller) is fitted and the steering column shaft is not connected to the steering gear, the steering wheel must be locked in position so that the basic setting of the coil spring will not be altered.


WARNING
If the basic setting of the coil spring is altered, the spiral conductor in the coil spring will break when the steering wheel is turned to full lock. The airbag will then fail to work in the event of an accident, with the consequent risk of serious injury to the driver.


Scrapping and recycling
To avoid injury when scrapping cars equipped with airbags and seat-belt tensioners, any airbags and seat-belt tensioners that have not been activated must be rendered unserviceable by electric detonation in accordance with the relevant instructions before the car is scrapped.

These safety measures are essential, as the pyrotechnical units can cause serious injury and material damage if handled unprofessionally.
