Longitudinal Link (VIN: X3025752-)


Longitudinal link (VIN: X30257S2-)
To remove
1. Raise the car and remove the wheel.





2. Push back the brake piston using adjustable pliers.
Undo the two brake caliper retaining bolts and hang up the brake caliper.
4. Remove the air deflector.
5. Remove the bolt securing the handbrake cable bracket.





6. Unplug the wheel sensor.
7. Detach the wheel sensor cable from the holder.
8. Remove the nuts from the wheel sensor cable mounting and the brake pipe.





9. Remove the damper's lower retaining bolt.
10. Remove the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.
11. Unhook the handbrake cable's return spring and remove the cable.
12. Remove the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.
13. Remove the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.





14. Remove the bolts securing the longitudinal link to the car body and lower away the link with hub and brake disc.





15. Remove the rear wheel hub with disc back-plate from the longitudinal link (4 nuts).





16. Clamp Assembly tool 89 96 753 (KM-901) as illustrated.
17. Remove the nut and bolt from the longitudinal link's bush and remove the tool.
18. Remove the body bracket from the longitudinal link bush.

To fit
1. Fit the bush into the longitudinal link and the ball joints into the longitudinal link, see To fit.





2. Fit the body bracket back in place on the longitudinal link's bush.
3. Clamp Assembly tool 89 96 753 (KM-901) as illustrated.
4. Tighten the nut and bolt retaining the body bracket.
Tightening torque 90 Nm + 60° (70 ft. lbs. + 60°).
5. Use a wire brush to clean the wheel hub's mating surface.





6. Fit the wheel hub on the longitudinal link, using new nuts. Tighten the nuts alternately.
Tightening torque 50 Nm + 30° (40 ft. lbs. + 30°).





7. Lift up the longitudinal link to the body and fit the bolts.
Fasten the bracket with Fixture 89 96 795 and tighten the bolts.
Tightening torque 90 Nm + 30° (66 ft. lbs. + 30°).





8. Tighten the bolt securing the upper transverse link to the longitudinal link.
Tightening torque 90 Nm + 60° (70 ft. lbs. + 60°).
9. Tighten the bolt securing the anti-roll bar link to the longitudinal link.
Tightening torque 50 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)
10. Hook the handbrake cable on and refit the return spring.
11. Tighten the bolt securing the lower transverse link to the longitudinal link.
Tightening torque 90 Nm + 60° (66 ft. lbs. + 60°).
12. Tighten the damper's lower retaining bolt.
Tightening torque 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.)





13. Fit the brake caliper. Use 74 96 268 Loctite 242 on the bolts.
Tightening torque 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)





14. Fit the mounting for the wheel sensor and the brake pipe.
Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
15. Fit the wheel sensor cable into the mounting.
16. Plug in the wheel sensor.
17. Fit the handbrake cable bracket.
Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.)
18. Fit the air deflector.
19. Fit the wheel.
Tightening torque 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.)
Lower the car to the floor.
20. Press out the piston in the brake caliper with the pedal.
