Cooling System: Service and Repair

Bleeding the cooling system

Note: A/C or ACC must be OFF.

1. Fill the system to MAXIMUM with Saab Original Coolant, part no. 400 131 389 (1 litre), 400 131 397 (4 litres) and close the expansion tank cap.
2. Start the engine and run it unloaded at varying speeds until the radiator fan starts.
3. Switch off the engine and top up as necessary to the MAXIMUM level.
4. Raise the car and check for any fluid leaks.

Bleeding the cooling system, V6

Note: A/C or ACC must be OFF.

1. Fill the system to MAXIMUM with Saab Original Coolant, part no. 400 131 389 (1 litre), 400 131 397 (4 litres) and close the expansion tank cap.
2. Start the engine and run it unloaded at varying speeds until the radiator fan starts. Check the return flow to the expansion tank.
3. Open the expansion tank cap and top up the coolant to the MAXIMUM marking.
4. Close the expansion tank cap and run the engine at varying rpm until the radiator fan starts three more times.
5. Switch off the engine and top up as necessary to the MAXIMUM level.
6. Raise the car and check for any fluid leaks.
