Delayed Windshield Washer Fluid Spray (Reposition Windshield Washer Pump in Washer Solvent Container)

Condition
Some customers may comment on a delayed windshield washer fluid spray with the wipers going through a few cycles before liquid is squirted through the washer nozzles. Technicians may find that the windshield washer pump seems to lose prime.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the windshield washer pump that is set too low in the washer solvent container. The windshield washer pump inlet may be touching the bottom of the washer solvent reservoir.
Correction
Technicians are to reposition the windshield washer pump in the washer solvent reservoir using the following procedure:
1. Remove the air cleaner element. Refer to the Air Cleaner Element Replacement procedure in SI.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement procedure in SI.
3. Remove the washer solvent container. Refer to the Washer Solvent Container Replacement procedure in SI.
4. Pull the windshield washer pump upward so that the windshield washer pump inlet has 2-5 mm (0.079 in-0.197 in) of clearance from the bottom of the washer solvent reservoir. The windshield washer pump is not to be removed from the plastic retainer that holds the top of the pump and is a part of the washer solvent reservoir. The windshield washer pump only needs to be repositioned upward. Refer to callout (1) in the illustration above, which shows the windshield washer pump repositioned in the washer solvent reservoir.
5. Install the washer solvent container. Refer to the Washer Solvent Container Replacement procedure in SI.
6. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement procedure in SI.
7. Install the air cleaner element. Refer to the Air Cleaner Element Replacement procedure in SI.
