A/C - Whine or Hum When Blower Motor Turned On

SUBJECT:
Whine or Hum Coming from HVAC Blower Motor and Fan Assembly (Install Fan Motor Cover)

MODELS AFFECTED:
All 1991-92 Saturns built before, and including VIN NZ191713.

CONDITION:
Some owners may hear a whine or hum from the HVAC blower motor when it is turned on.

NOTE:
If a grinding or clicking noise is heard, refer to Technical Information Bulletin 92-T-41 (281202) - Water or Debris Intrusion into Blower Motor.

CAUSE:
The whining or humming noise is caused by the commutator in the blower motor and fan assembly.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Install new fan motor cover P/N 21030787.

PROCEDURES





1. Disconnect blower motor and fan assembly electrical connector.





2. Remove blower motor and fan assembly mounting screws and remove blower motor and fan assembly.





3. Remove adhesive backed foam ring from bottom surface of blower motor and fan assembly.

NOTICE:
Failure to remove all of foam ring and adhesive will cause the blower motor and fan assembly to overheat and become damaged.

4. Install blower motor and fan assembly and motor cover (P/N 21030787) together with three screws.

5. Connect blower motor and fan assembly electrical connector.
